Every parent wants to get that perfect snapshot of their little one, but most end up being sadly disappointed. If you find yourself clicking away and still not getting any decent photos, you might need to try the following tips:

1.Use natural light. The more light, the better. While outside photos tend to turn out better, you can still take advantage of natural light indoors by positioning your child near a window. Don`t forget to use the right white balance settings on your camera, or the colors will come out odd.

2. Try new angles. Don`t always take pictures from the adult point of view, get down to your child`s level. This might mean stretching out on your belly on the floor to capture the look of determination in your almost-crawling baby or poking your head into a homemade tent to snap your children having a tea party.

3. Go for action shots. Trying to get your child to sit still while you get a good photo doesn`t mean he or she cooperate! Toddlers in particular are wiggly and don`t do well in posed photos, so go for an action shot or wait until your child is playing or reading quietly.

4. Get closer. Some of the best photos of children are the ones that focus in close. Use the macro setting on your camera to make sure these close-ups are in focus and then get down and zoom in on that cute little face. This works best when your child is occupied with something so they are actually still for a few moments.

5. Shake the sillies out. If you really want a nice posed photo, take a bunch of silly ones first. Have your child make the saddest, happiest, grumpiest face ever and take a picture of it. Ask her to stick out her tongue and cross her eyes. These pictures might not end up in your photo album, but they will get the kids laughing so hard that you`ll get some stunning pictures afterwards.

There will be days when your child simply doesn`t cooperate, but keep your camera handy to capture those candid moments when your toddler is soothing the baby or two siblings are actually playing together. Getting lots of photos and following the tips above will help you capture those ideal moments perfectly.
