Baptism Photos
A quick Google search for baptism photos gives you a plethora of stock photo sites and riggid frameworks to capture your child’s precious entry into the kingdom of God. Are we really as cold as to Google everything, even something as holy as this rite of passage? Well…yes, but only for comparison! The best way to find your way to do something is to see the work others have done, and then discredit it by thinking about how you could’ve done it better.

Many sites offer stock photos. These photos generally offer professional offerings of babies in white garb, and many of them are very tasteful…but they’re not real. Professionals have the advantage of either staging events, or taking so many photos at once that they’re bound to catch a good one. The rest of us only have a window of about 20-50 photos for any given event (more for events we don’t have to participate in ourselves) so how do we get those amazing picz with that limitation? First take a look at what’s been done. If you like a particular photo from the stock sites, then try and find that moment and get it, but don’t dwell.
If you are the father of this Godly-child then you’ll be involved in the ceremony, so try and get as many pictures you can of the before and after. During the ceremony itself you will not be able to take pictures, so find someone you trust and hope for the best! Get a lot of alter shots when you have time in the before and after times because this is when you can manufacture the aura. If you use flash, do so it sparingly and with a slow shutter speeds. This can create an angelic effect through blurred lines and focused light angles. Overall, though, try to use the natural light of the church. Many churches are dark, but remember you’re manufacturing a real occurrence so you still want to capture what is really there.
For some good stock photos of baptisms I recommend checking out Shutterstock and use their search feature to find the photos. They’re tasteful and elegant photos that should give you some good ideas.
For what not to do check out Baptism Photos Gone Wrong. To be honest if I didn’t really read this page I would not have know that this was a baptism…well I guess the white garb gave it away too…
