This is part 4 of our 28 part series Capturing Special Moments. Every other week, Shannon will share photos and commentary from the key moments in your child’s development- from infancy thru early childhood. These are memories every parent will want to treasure for years to come. Follow along and don’t forget to share your special moments on our My Baby Photos Facebook group.

During the first year of your child’s life, he or she will almost certainly spend some time crawling around on all fours.  While some babies spend several weeks or even months crawling around, others spend only a few days in this stage and others seem to go straight from rolling around on their stomachs to walking.  So, make certain to start snapping photos of your little one as soon as he or she starts crawling - you never know how long this stage will last!  With that said, here is a look at some great photos of crawling capers to give you a bit of inspiration for your photos.

Meeting ‘Em Head On

One of the best ways to get a great picture of your baby as he or she explores the world on all fours is to get down on the floor and crawl to!  Getting down to your child’s level helps draw you into your baby’s world when you look at the picture later.  The photo below is a great example of getting down and meeting the baby face-to-face for a truly adorable photo. Of course, the slight smirk and look of absolute bride on this baby’s face really helps sell the photo!

Making it a Mosaic

If you are having a difficult time selecting the photo you love the most, you might want to consider putting together a mosaic such as the one below.

Learning to Crawl

Another benefit to creating a mosaic such as this one is that it helps create the feeling of movement - which is precisely what your little guy or gal is doing!

Close Encounters

When it comes to crawling, part of the excitement for your little one is the fact that he or she can now explore the world more freely.  So, snapping a photo of your crawling kid as he or she meets up with some of the world’s little treasures will help you create a truly memorable photo.  The photo below is a great example of a little one meeting up with all of his favorite toys as he crawls about the room.

Playing with Shadows

Getting creative with lighting and shadows can also be a whole lot of fun when taking photos of your crawling child.  In the photo below, for example, the shadow of the baby’s raised hand coupled with the interesting angle almost makes him look like a large monster terrorizing the city below.  Of course, one look at his adorable face tells you that he really is not someone to be feared!

The Great Big World

While close encounters show the excitement your child feels as he or she discovers all of the wonderful things the world has to offer, the photo below shows how big that world really is.

By pulling the camera back and photographing the great big world around your child, you show just how much of the world your little one still has left to conquer.

The Wipeout

Of course, while learning how to master the crawl, there are bound to be times when your little one will have a crash or two.  Hopefully, your little guy or gal will take the wipeout in stride just as this little fella has.

Catching Him in Motion

There is truly something special about when your child starts moving about on all fours, and nothing captures this moment better than snapping a photo while he or she is motion.  The look of determination combined with the movement of the little guy in the photo below helps demonstrate just how special this moment really is.

OMG... Look Who's Crawling!
