Lately, our 3 year old has been expressing an interest in using our digital camera. Well, considering we have a Cannon Digital Rebel, I don’t think that would work out too well. In the hands of our son Charles, it would soon be digital “rubble”. We looked around and found there are several kid friendly cameras available for reasonable prices (under $100). Here are three kid cameras I liked:

There are plenty of excellent reviews of kid friendly cameras already on the web, so I’m not going to rehash what others have done a far better job doing. However, something new that I have been checking out are video reviews on Expo TV. You can watch hundreds of video reviews by parents who have purchased products for their kids. Very cool. Here are two reviews of kid friendly cameras you might enjoy:

Kid Tough Digital Camera from Fisher-Price

Kidizoom Digital Camera from VTech

The thing that cinched it for me was the review from Thingamababy. At Thingamababy, they offer a Dad’s eye view of baby and toddler stuff. He gives a very solid good vs bad opinion with no particular hidden agenda. He even shows some pictures his daughter took with the camera! I settled on the Kid Tough Digital Camera because it met my toddlers needs- it’s waterproof, super easy to use and virtually indestructible. Thingamababy didn’t like it that much because image quality was low at $70 retail price tag. But of the three cameras I checked out, they all were all 2 megapixels or under and this one is midrange price. It’s available at Walmart for $55 with an easy return policy!

Will the camera survive the fish bowl?

Will the camera survive the fish bowl?

P.S. Check out this cute commercial over at Fisher Price that shows kids throwing the camera in a fish bowl.. the camera came out like a champ.
