Christmas is a special season – especially when you have a new baby. Suddenly, everything takes on new meaning. Hope is rediscovered. Wonder is everywhere.

This year was my son’s first Christmas and it was truly magical. I wanted to capture everything and consequently have hundreds of pictures from the month of December. Now that the tree is taken down and the decorations are in storage, I have turned my attention to scrapbooking some of my favorite pictures from the holiday season. Of course, I won’t scrapbook all those pictures, just my favorites and those that capture a story I want to tell.

Below are five scrapbooking ideas for chronicling your baby’s first Christmas. I hope this list will help jumpstart your creativity.

  1. A Special Mini Album: I created a December Daily album this year, where I included a photo every day from the holidays. Many of the photos were of my son Elias, but I also included photos of my home, Starbucks coffee, Christmas concerts and get-togethers with friends. You could easily modify this concept and do a mini album of a bunch of your favorite photos. Mini albums are a great way to scrapbook a bunch of photos at one time.

  2. The Annual Family Photo: Every year my family sets the camera up on a tripod and takes a family photo. Make a scrapbook layout of the photo – include people’s ages, the story behind the photo and/or what makes this particular photo special. For my layout, I focused on the grandkids – two new babies and a new husband since last year!

  3. Meeting Santa: What Christmas scrapbook would be complete without the story of meeting Santa? Whether your baby screamed his head off or loved Santa, tell that story. It will be the first of many.

  4. First Gifts: For your baby, Christmas will probably be the first time he opens packages. Journal about what your baby thought about the wrapping paper, the presents themselves and the experience.

  5. Christmas Lights: Many babies are mesmerized by Christmas lights. If you captured a picture of your baby staring at the lights on the tree or on other decorations, scrapbook it! You likely won’t have to do much journaling, as the picture probably says it all.

If traditional paper scrapbooking isn’t for you, consider creating a photo book on a website like Shutterfly or Snapfish. Both of these sites offer great, affordable options for putting together a beautiful book of your digital photos.
