This is the first edition of our weekly review of baby photo contests on the web. I surfed the net for a couple hours and managed to find 35 contests. Now comes the fun part, reviewing each one. Some contests may offer more prizes than others and many of them have an entry fee. Not surprisingly, several of these are good old fashion marketing tools aimed at selling you something.

Well.. surprisingly I found one that is quite upfront about being a contest dedicated to finding kid photos for their raw personality and creativity. The name of the contest is kidz rock!. This really struck a nerve in me because I’m a big fan of photojournalism and I love it when people celebrate more than just how cute a rosy cheeked baby boy is or how pretty your baby girl looks in make up and ironed curls. The subtitle of kidz rock says it all:

WHERE EVERYONE WINS!!!!
This is not a beauty contest. ALL KIDS ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Photos are judged on personality, creativity, quality of photo and overall impression.

There is a submission fee of $2.50 for a single photo and discounts are applied as you submit more. The prizes are awarded monthly and may vary from month to month. Everyone wins a personalized trophy and the overall winner gets a 16″ personalized trophy and automatically entered into some more competitive contests. I have some questions about what these contests are but didn’t have much time to go over them. If any of you have tried these sites out please leave some comments!
